Click Here for More Info: Need to wipe your G1 because the phone is corrupted or frozen, eg, your G1 keeps rebooting over and over again without getting to the desktop/home page? Are you a non-geek/newbie and not sure how your phone got messed up? Ready to sell your soul to Satan to get out of your predicament and able to use your G1, again? Have your friends asked “Why are you carrying that brick?” or “What are you pounding on the table and why are you swearing at it?” Is your G1 so clogged up that it’s time to soak it in Liquid Drano? Well help has arrived. Here is how you do a factory wipe or hard reset. (Note: this procedure assumes you can’t get to the G1′s reset “button” located in the Android OS settings menu and you DO NOT know what the terms “jailbreak” or “root” mean.) Update: This tutorial is for non-rooted phones. The hard reset (or wipe) will put your phone back to the way it was when you first opened the box. Inside Information: THIS IS THE “SECRET” PROCEDURE T-MOBILE TECH SUPPORT HAS NON-GEEK CONSUMERS GO THROUGH AS A LAST RESORT WHEN THE G1 CANNOT RECOVER FROM A CRASH. (This is done before the CSR says to send the phone back for a replacement.) Sidenote: Don’t feel bad, these phones do a lot nowadays, they crash often and need to be reset. And sometimes the phone will freeze and refuse to reboot. This procedure should save your butt. My video covers both hard and soft resets. WARNING: The hard reset procedure erases all third party applications you

@lilcuriousgeorge1 .. A hard reset should not mess up a phone. As long as you have a data connection with T-Mobile and a gmail account, a hard reset will go fine.

People who have problems either don’t have a g-mail account or they do not have a data plan with T-Mobile.

thanks a lot you are great help :) If i were u in the description of the video do a warning : ” if your touchscreen stop working by hardware, do not do this or you wont be able to use the phone at all, not even with the tracking ball” :) thanks again my friend!

  8. HeartInSanFrancisco

@genturo .. Or you could have a hardware problem, in which case a hard reset is not going to fix it.

And if it’s a rooted phone someone could have bricked it. That does happen to some phones, they are bricked and even HTC can’t fix it, unless they put in a new “motherboard.”

  9. HeartInSanFrancisco

@genturo .. You might have a rooted phone.

by the way, I been lookin all over internet, a think if your touchscreen stop working, and u do this..you f**cked up..u need to throw to the trash the phone, specially ppl like me, in south america :(

  11. genturo

ya no luck, I did it like 20 times, it does all the same but it wont move forward from the begning screen where u need to touch the big andriod logo..cuz touchscreen doesnt work…i think This phone wont be useful anymore…too bad I should had used it at least with no touch , only with the trackball :(

  12. genturo

can be that i have different version? cuz after i do ALT+W , it does everything but when power up, that has the “andriod” and the “logo” in your video , in my only is the word andriod, no logo

@riisque … Note: Saving to SIM only puts the person’s name and phone number on to the SIM, e-mail and mailing addresses are NOT saved on a SIM.

There’s room on a SIM for about 500 names and phone numbers.

  14. HeartInSanFrancisco

@riisque … That’s the standard default message Google gives, even if you did not enter your gmail account information correctly. Make sure you enter your gmail name and password correctly.

As to saving contacts to a SIM, you have to do that manually when in Android. (Select “save contacts to SIM card.”)

@bearcub305 … Try again. Sounds like you may be in a dead zone where you are not getting a signal.

  16. HeartInSanFrancisco

@genturo… Sounds like something did not “take” when performing the reset. Simply repeat the procedure.

And remember, it can take as long as 15 minutes to get past the Android guy.

  17. genturo

My touchscreeen stop working, so I did this, and now I cant use the phone at all cuz is wont move from the android logo if i dont touch the screen!!!!!!!! HELP! S.O.S :(

  18. bearcub305

ok my g1 said ” cant establish a reliable data connection to server ” what do i do???

  19. riisque

I did the hard reset in the hope that It would save the contacts I have onto the sim card… doesn’t look like that happened , and now when I signed in to google (after hard reset ) and it displays the following text:

You don’t have a network connection.
This could be a temp. problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services. Please try again when you are connected. If it continues call cutomer care.

if it’s a problem with the battery, the G1 works without a battery when plugged into a charger. try removing the battery, plugging it in using mains charger, and then run the hard reset as in this video. if it doesn’t turn on, i’m not sure what else to do.
    hope this helps?

  21. samuelnathanrichards

    Thank you so much!
I had a problem with the start-up. It turned on, then did the G1 screen, then when it went onto the Android loading screen, after about 15″ it froze, then went to a black screen.
I tried Soft Reset first, but didn’t work. So i did the Hard Reset, and that worked perfectly. I only lost 2 contacts, and data in the applications (e.g. Notes), but that is a small price to pay for getting my phone working again.
p.s. I recommend backing up your contacts using your google account.

  22. TH7596

my crap g1 wont stay on and always turned off so i put in a different battery from a different phone that used the same voltage and connectors, it turned on but then it started freezing so i removed battery and put back g1 battery but it didnt boot it stays loading the android signso i removed batt again and now it won turn on, is there a way to do a hard reset with out turning on the phone?

    thank you

  24. MISFITPUNKK

does it matter if i do a hard reset and leave my sim card in the phone??

  25. PowerRizer

If I rooted my G1, and I’m using Cyanogen 6.00, with the Jf loader, and I do the hard reset. Will my phone be unrooted? I want to keep the root and Cyanogen firmware, but my G1 keeps rebooting like 10 seconds after I pass the unlock screen.
